About

Hey, I'm Alex.

I started this blog for a couple reasons, but mostly because I'm bad at keeping up with people and constantly guilty over it. I'll be writing about stories that happen to me and what's on my mind. I can't promise it'll be interesting, but I'm keeping it as real as I can.

The title comes from a pairing of two flowers—phlox, which means "Our souls are united," and zinnia, which means "I mourn your absence." These definitions, which come from Vanessa Diffenbaugh's novel The Language of Flowers, together express how I feel about the people in my life, people who I made this blog for. I want to keep you up to date on me and my thoughts while I'm not there since I'm not too great at doing it through other means of communication.

I realize that this is pretty much a one-way conversation, so please comment or tell me stories about your lives, ones that these posts may dredge up or other ones entirely.

Thanks for stopping by.
